UP Police Maintains Zero Tolerance on Crime: 3 Criminals Killed, 46 Injured in 36 Encounters in 48 Hours

Lucknow: Reaffirming its strict zero tolerance policy on crime, the Uttar Pradesh Police has intensified statewide action against criminals, resulting in three encounters deaths and 46 injured offenders in the last 48 hours, according to official data.

During the same period, police carried out 36 separate encounters, leading to the arrest of 61 criminals, including the injured, officials confirmed.

Statewide Crackdown Underway

Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna said the ongoing campaign against organized and street crime will continue with full intensity. He stated that the police are acting under clear directives to dismantle criminal networks and maintain law and order across the state.

Among the encounters reported recently, the highest number—eight encounters—took place in Muzaffarnagar, where 10 criminals were injured and 11 were arrested. Separate encounters in Hardoi and Mathura led to the killing of three criminals.

Sharp Rise in Action Against Criminal Networks

Since the formation of the current government in 2017, Uttar Pradesh Police has significantly increased enforcement measures:

  • 272 criminals killed in encounters (2017–2026)
  • 11,051 criminals injured in encounters
  • 85,118 criminals booked under Gangster Act
  • 977 offenders booked under NSA (National Security Act)
  • Property worth over ₹14,500 crore seized from criminals

Officials said these figures reflect an aggressive push to dismantle organized crime syndicates across the state.

Action Against Mafia Networks

Police have also intensified action against identified mafia groups:

  • 68 marked mafia groups under surveillance
  • 1,459 total gang members identified
  • 875 cases registered against them
  • 638 arrests made so far

Authorities said sustained operations have significantly weakened the operational strength of organized criminal groups.

Judicial Outcomes Strengthened

The DGP further highlighted that police are not only focusing on field operations but also ensuring strong prosecution in courts.

Over the past nine years, effective legal follow-up has resulted in:

  • 1,25,985+ convictions secured
  • 79 criminals awarded death penalty
  • 10,414 sentenced to life imprisonment
  • 1,921 criminals sentenced to over 20 years in jail

Officials said this reflects improved coordination between investigation agencies and the judiciary.

Government’s Zero-Tolerance Approach

The Uttar Pradesh government has consistently maintained that its policing strategy is based on a zero tolerance policy against crime and criminals, introduced after 2017 under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership.

Police leadership emphasized that increased encounter operations are part of a broader strategy that includes surveillance, legal prosecution, asset seizure, and preventive detention measures.

The latest 48-hour crackdown underscores Uttar Pradesh Police’s continued aggressive stance against crime. Officials claim that sustained enforcement, combined with strong legal follow-through, is reshaping the state’s law-and-order landscape and sending a strong message to organized criminal networks.
